Let’s Talk About Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging: Exchanging Multicultural Perspectives
Jointly presented by the Canadian Multicultural Education Foundation and the Edmonton Interfaith Centre for Education & Action.
Canadian Multiculturalism Day 2022 is going to address the question: Are we seeing Canada’s multicultural bedrock crumbling since COVID-19 pandemic began? We observed rising racism, hate crimes and violence that are shaking peoples’ sense of pride and belonging to Canada. The event consists of 4 mini-workshops, each focusing on a topic related to multiculturalism and on the themes of diversity, inclusion and belonging.

1. Bridging reconciliation and multiculturalism: challenges and strategies
Speakers: Lewis Cardinal, Indigenous Educator; Elder Marilyn Buffalo; Brooks Arcand-Paul, VP, Indigenous Bar Association
2. Prospects for integration of Ukrainian Refugees coming to Canada to escape the war in Ukraine.
Speaker: Winston Gereluk, Member of Association of United Ukrainian Canadians and Congress of Union Retirees of Canada
3. Multiculturalism and Labour: How well is multiculturalism safeguarding workers’ rights?
Speaker: Donna Coombs-Montrose, Alberta Labour History Institute
4. What are the forces that work for or against successful intercultural unity?
Speaker: Judy Sillito, Program Manager, Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative

The Canadian Multicultural Education Foundation (CMEF) proudly presents its 23rd Annual Harmony Brunch in commemoration of the March 21st International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination known as the Sharpeville massacre in South Africa. March 21st is a day to remind us of the negative consequences of racial discrimination. It also encourages people to remember their obligation and determination to combat racial discrimination in their personal, professional and communal lives.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Alvin Finkel, Professor Emeritus, History, Athabasca University who has recently published a book entitled “Compassion: A Global History of Social Policy” on this topic. His publications include leading texts in Canadian history, as well as monographs on social policy, western Canadian political history, and interwar European politics. He has published widely on social policy issues.
Theme: This year, the theme of the Harmony Brunch is “Compassion in a Multicultural World”.

The World Refugee Day Organizing committee invites you to join us in City Hall for our 2019 UNHCR World Refugee Day. Together, we will remember the plight of the refugee in our world, what we as a community in Edmonton have done to welcome refugees, and what the future holds for our stepping up as individuals and as a community.
We will feature refugee stories, Canada’s 40 years with the Private Sponsorship Stream, and our recent experience in welcoming the Syrian influx.

This is a special celebration of a seniors awareness and poster campaign to promote the invaluable contributions of seniors to Canada. The event is presented by the Canadian Multicultural Education Foundation based on a community project supported by the Government of Canada–New Horizons for Seniors Program, Employment and Social Development Canada. “A just society is inclusive. Canadian society needs to include seniors”, quotes board president Beryl Scott from the rationale for the campaign.
